GENERAL INFORMATION
Immersed within over 2 acres of private gardens and woodlands, this country house hotel boasts a tranquil setting on the steep slopes of the magnificently wooded Heddon Valley.
Run by us, its owners, Anne and Eddie Eyles, Heddon’s Gate Hotel boasts a relaxed and friendly atmosphere within comfortable and peaceful surroundings, complemented by superb views of the valley.
Originally built as a hunting lodge in the 1890’s, Heddon’s Gate has been sympathetically extended over the decades. It is now a charming and eccentric fusion of different ages and styles, and this is reflected in its décor and comfortable furnishings.
HOTEL INFORMATION
The front terraces and lawns are the ideal sun traps at any time of year.
There is generous space to relax with an inside bar, morning room, large lounge and cosy library.
Heddon’s Gate is proud to be featured in the Good Hotel Guide.
AREA INFORMATION
Explore glorious Exmoor on foot or by car; a short 10 minute walk will bring you to some of the most beautiful and challenging parts of the SW Coast Path. Abundant wildlife can also be enjoyed in the surroundings, including many red deer and wild Exmoor ponies.
FOOD&BEVERAGE
Food and drink are an important part of the Heddon’s Gate day. Start with a full English breakfast served at your table, and return later for an afternoon tea with Devon clotted cream. Round it all off with pre-dinner drinks and an excellent four-course dinner, followed by coffee. There are good-quality teas and coffees, a full bar and a well-chosen, varied wine list.
Meals are served in the spacious and elegant dining rooms.
Breakfast is served between 8:30 and 9:30 am.
The kitchen does not serve lunch, however, a good, modestly-priced packed lunch is available on request at breakfast time.
Afternoon tea is available to half-board guests between 16:00 and 16:45; guests serve themselves in the lounges.
Dinner is 4-courses plus coffee and chocolates, all included in the half-board prices, with a daily-changing, limited-choice menu. You can opt for a fifth course for a supplementary charge. Unfortunately there are no reductions for courses or meals booked but not taken.
Dinner orders will be taken in the afternoon and they should be placed by 19:00 at the very latest. Dinner is normally served at 19:30, but you can choose to eat later, up to 20:00.
The hotel regrets that room service is not available.
Please let the hotel know at the time of booking whether there is anything you cannot eat.
